What is PAT testing?
While not a legal requirement portable appliance testing is crucial to the safety of your staff, the public and your premises ensuring portable appliances in the workplace are safe and fit for use. It is also a valid and recognised standard of proof of your compliance with the electricity at work regulations 1989.
How often does PAT testing need doing?
The frequency of PAT testing is determined by a number of factors most notably the environment the appliances are used in. Other factors include appliance type, class, age, condition, workload and operator skill/training.
IT equipment in a clean office environment would need less frequent testing than hand power tools on a building site or workshop floor in a garage.
